The inaugural Manitowoc Ultimate Hat Tournament kicks off this Saturday, July 28th, at the MPSD Soccer Complex on S. 35th Street in Manitowoc. Nearly 60 players from around the state, as well as cities like Chicago, Des Moines and the Twin Cities will be gathering to play in the mixer/hat format. Player check-in begin at 9 AM, and the first games will pull at 10 AM.
The public is encouraged to come down and watch the games and learn about Ultimate. "Hopefully some kids will walk away from this excited to play and go on to start Ultimate clubs at their schools," said Don Seiler, tournament director and president of the Manitowoc Ultimate Frisbee Concern. "The ultimate goal, no pun intended, is to get more kids and adults playing Ultimate in Manitowoc, Two Rivers and all over the area. 5 years from now I'd love to see high school clubs playing one another, a rec league full of teams, and pick-up games in every park."
Proceeds from the tournament will go to the Manitowoc Ultimate Frisbee Concern, a non-profit organization. For more information, visit the MUFC online at www.mufc.us.
